Red Team Wins Sunday League Championship

 

The Red Team coached by League alum Brian Palmigiano survived tough challenges from the Gold and White Teams to win the 10th Annual Sunday League Championship.   The Final game was an overtime thriller with big buckets by Reid Little and Max Fried down the stretch after Selascie Smith's bucket with 3 seconds to go sent the game into overtime.  The Jacobsen brothers had some impressive games leading the Gold Team.  Congrats to all the players from the Red, White, Blue and Gold Teams and best of luck to all in your school seasons.

10th Annual City League for 7th and 8th Grade Boys

The Bay Area Warriors will again host a Mini-League for 7th and 8th Grade Boys starting November 16th and continuing November 23rd and 30th in San Francisco.  This league is a great way for players to prepare for their upcoming school season, meet other ballers and have fun.  The league is typically very competitive with many of the players going on to play in High School and several going on to play in college (see League Alumni list below).  If you are interested in signing up your son please contact Coach Randy Bessolo at 415 418 4568 or coachrandal@yahoo.com

Warriors End Summer in Vegas

 

The Bay Area Warriors-17s finished their Summer AAU season in Las Vegas going 2-2 including an especially good win over the Dallas Pacers to secure 2nd place in their pool.  The Warriors went a respectable 9-7 in the 4 NCAA sanctioned events they participated in during the Spring and Summer and 18-13 overall.  Bay Area Warriors-Blue also finished their summer in Las Vegas and closed out on high note with two wins in bracket play.  More significantly all the guys on both teams improved their games, were scouted by numerous college coaches and had a lot of fun.   We wish all the guys a lot of success in the 2014-15 high school season.

This week-end we will have two Bay Area Warriors Teams in Gerry Freitas' NorCal Summer Tip-off at CCSF on 7/12-13.  Both Teams will also be in the Pangos Cream of the Crop in LA 7/18-19 and in Hal Pastner's Bigfoothoops Las Vegas Classic from 7/23-27.

Bay Area Warriors -17s (Will play Saturday at CCSF at 9:30 and 11:30 and on Sunday at 1:30 (CCSF) and 3:30 (Lick))

Jemeil King - Lincoln HS (2015) - 6'3" guard.  Great speed and motor.  Very skilled with good feel for the game.

Demar Dunn - Salesian (2015) - 5'11" guard.  Great motor and competitor.  Older brother (Mario) is D1 player at Montana

Tarrez Blaylock - Lincoln (2015) - 6'2" guard.  Great motor, defender and shooter

Henry Feinberg - Branson (2016) - 6'4" guard.  Very skilled and athletic.  Great student

Ben Pust - California HS (2015) - 6'3" wing.  Very skilled and versatile with great feel for the game.  Good student

Warriors Close-out Spring and Prepare for July

The Bay Area Warriors 17s went 2-2 at the Memorial Day Classic finishing the Spring with a 12-7 record.  The 16s also won two games in the event.

Both Bay Area Warriors teams will take off all of June so the guys can play with their HS teams and then regroup after the 4th of July week-end.

In July both teams will play in the following events:

July 12-13 in HoopReview NorCal Classic at CCSF

Jul7 18-19 in Pangos Cream of the Crop Classic in Los Angeles (Garden Grove)

July 24-27 in the Bigfoot Las Vegas Classic

Bay Area Warriors founder and long-time coach Evan Jones and Shiku Ngigi were married on 5/31.  Congrats from all the Warriors!

City Championship Tournament includes 64 Teams

On 5/16-18 the Bay Area Warriors hosted the 7th Annual City Championship Basketball Tournament at CCSF and Riordan HS.  64 teams participated on two 32  team brackets (16s and 17s).  This was the largest field of teams ever in the tournament.  

Greenline was the 17s City Champions

Oakland Soldiers 16s Blue and Oakland Soldiers 15s Elite were Co-City Champions in the 16s division.

City All Star Game a Success

The 7th Annual City All Star Game attract several hundred fans who came to send off the Senior All Stars from the AAA, WCAL  and BCL.  The game was again held in memory of the late Lincoln coach Michael Gragnani and his mother Diane was welcomed by all the players before the Boys game tipped off. Girls Game MVP was Danielle Palmer of International HS (Red Team)

Warriors Roll through the Spring Evaluation Period

The Warriors went 3-1 in Sacramento during the NCAA Evaluation Period Tournament run by Gerry Freitas.  The Warriors knocked off the Nevada Wolverines, Fast Break (from LA) and NorCal Warriors before falling by 3 points to Lakeshow Black.

In the City Championship Tournament Both Warriors teams went 2-1 advancing to the QuarterFinals.  The 17s lost to eventual Champion Greenline by 1 point and sport a 10-5 record to date in the Spring season

Both Warriors teams will be in action this week-end at the Memorial Day Classic.

Rosters are Announced for 7th Annual City All Star Game on 5/2 at CCSF

City All Stars,

We are less than a week away for the 7th Annual City All Star Game.  This will be a fun way for Seniors to end their high school career and to bring the San Francisco basketball community together.  It is also important because the game is in memory of Coach Mike Gragnani who was the Lincoln Head Coach and sadly passed away during the 2010-11 season.

You will just need to show-up at least 30 to 45 minutes prior to your game time.  The Girls will play at 5:30 and the Boys at approximately 7:00 pm.  We will provide a t-shirt uniform that you can keep as a thank you for participating.  You will need to bring your own shorts, shoes and game.  We will select an MVP of each game and provide an award.

We will be having a 3-point shooting contest for both the Girls and Boys.  Each participant will get 1 minute to make as many 3-pointers as they can with 2 balls and a rebounder.  The first round of the Girls contest will be before the Girls game at 5:00 and the Final round will be after the Girls Game.  If you want to participate just show up by 5:00.  Both rounds of the Boys 3-point contest will be after the Boys Game.  There will be a trophy for the winners

We will also have a Slam Dunk Contest before the Boys Game.  We will let the Boys teams warm-up in lay-up lines and then anyone who wants to participate will be given 30 seconds to score a dunk which will then be scored.  We typically have 3 rounds.  There will be a trophy for the winner.

Note, we do not charge you anything to participate in this event, but we do charge $5 for admission which is used to off-set our costs.  We typically break even but if there is a surplus it goes to our non-profit, Bay Area Warriors .  Please spread the word to your family, friends and teammates so we can get a supportive crowd

We have divided the All Stars into Red and White Teams.  We keep players from the same schools together.  We reserve the right to make last minute adjustments, if necessary to balance the rosters.  Note I have been able to reach almost all of the invitees but please make sure your fellow HS teammates get the word just in case I have not been able to reach them.

Jiday Ugbaja Signs Letter of Intent with Sac State

 

Jiday Ugbaja of Archbishop Riordan became the 12th Bay Area Warrior to go D1 when he signed his letter of intent with Sacramento State of the Big Sky Conference.  Jiday was a two time All-WCAL player.

Warriors 17s Fall in Championship of Soldiers Gold Brackets

The Bay Area Warriors went 3-2 at the Soldiers Extravaganza Tournament advancing to the Championship game of the Gold Brackets where they fell to a loaded Ground Up team from Los Angeles.  The Warriors fell to the Oakland Soldiers 16s Elite then beat Nevada Wolverines, NorCal Warriors (Sacramento) and Coastside.  Keith Hunter, Jr. (pictured) of Oakland HS hit a buzzer beating shot to beat the NorCal Warriors.

Warriors Start Strong in Oakland Rebels Tourney

 

Both the Bay Area Warriors Gold and Bay Area Warriors Blue kicked off the season going 2-1 in the Oakland Rebels Tournament.

The Gold team beat Oakland Rebels Red and Elite and fell too Lakeshow- White.   Gold got great contributions from Keith Hunter (Oakland), Terrez Blaylock (Lincoln). Jemiel King (Lincoln), Eric Gallindo (Riordan), Sam Esser (Balboa), Henry Feinberg (Branson), Belie Coleman (Skyline), Naod Sebhatlieb (University), Josh Tesfamarian (Oakland) and Micah Bessolo (Valley Christian).

The Blue Team beat the Oakland Rebels and NP Force but fell in a heated re-match with the Oakland Rebels.  Blue got great contributions from Sean Gilmore (University), Jake Tulchinsky (University), Sepher Agnesse (Marin Catholic), Daniel Bessolo (Valley Christian) and the entire Gateway crew including Steven, Sterling, Yasim and Nick.

Both Warriors teams will be back in action next week-end at the Oakland Soldiers Extravaganza

9th Annual City Sunday League Won by Dark Blue

The Bay Area Warriors Sunday League now has a long history of helping Junior High Schoolers get ready for their school season.  While the host gym for the League has moved from Hamilton Rec to Ella Hill Hutch Community Center to UHS, competitive games and a lot of fun are constants.  Many alumni of the League have gone on to Star at San Francisco High Schools and several have gone on the play in College. League Alums currently playing in College include Noah Springwater at Columbia, Steven Domingo at Georgetown, Taylor Johns at UC Riverside, Jonny Mrlik at Vassar, Ikenna Nwadibia at Kenyon, David Medoff at Haverford and Harold Getz at Lewis & Clark, Joe Slocum at Alaska Fairbanks. This years League had 6 teams (Red, White, Dark Blue, Gold, Light Blue and Black). The Championship game was played between Light Blue and Dark Blue with DB taking home the hardware (Note pictured in Gold).  See photos of all the teams below:

Warriors Close-out Successful Season in FAB48 in Vegas

The Bay Warriors travelled to Las Vegas and knocked off some good teams including Compton Hoops and Deron Williams Elite - Black in the super competitive Platinum Division of the NCAA Sanctioned Fab48 Tournament.  In July the Warriors also competed in the NorCal Hoop Review Showcase at CCSF and the Pango's Cream of the Crop Showcase in Los Angeles, both of which were NCAA sanctioned.  The Warriors competed against and beat some very talented teams, were scouted by NCAA  and NAIA Division 1, 2 and 3 Coaches and had a lot of fun.  Congrats to the Warriors on another successful season!
