Warriors Roll through the Spring Evaluation Period
/
The Warriors went 3-1 in Sacramento during the NCAA Evaluation Period Tournament run by Gerry Freitas. The Warriors knocked off the Nevada Wolverines, Fast Break (from LA) and NorCal Warriors before falling by 3 points to Lakeshow Black.
In the City Championship Tournament Both Warriors teams went 2-1 advancing to the QuarterFinals. The 17s lost to eventual Champion Greenline by 1 point and sport a 10-5 record to date in the Spring season
Both Warriors teams will be in action this week-end at the Memorial Day Classic.

City Championship Tournament includes 64 Teams
/On 5/16-18 the Bay Area Warriors hosted the 7th Annual City Championship Basketball Tournament at CCSF and Riordan HS. 64 teams participated on two 32 team brackets (16s and 17s). This was the largest field of teams ever in the tournament.
Greenline was the 17s City Champions
Oakland Soldiers 16s Blue and Oakland Soldiers 15s Elite were Co-City Champions in the 16s division.

City All Star Game a Success
/The 7th Annual City All Star Game attract several hundred fans who came to send off the Senior All Stars from the AAA, WCAL and BCL. The game was again held in memory of the late Lincoln coach Michael Gragnani and his mother Diane was welcomed by all the players before the Boys game tipped off. Girls Game MVP was Danielle Palmer of International HS (Red Team)

/Jiday Ugbaja Signs Letter of Intent with Sac State
/Jiday Ugbaja of Archbishop Riordan became the 12th Bay Area Warrior to go D1 when he signed his letter of intent with Sacramento State of the Big Sky Conference. Jiday was a two time All-WCAL player.

Warriors 17s Fall in Championship of Soldiers Gold Brackets

The Bay Area Warriors went 3-2 at the Soldiers Extravaganza Tournament advancing to the Championship game of the Gold Brackets where they fell to a loaded Ground Up team from Los Angeles. The Warriors fell to the Oakland Soldiers 16s Elite then beat Nevada Wolverines, NorCal Warriors (Sacramento) and Coastside. Keith Hunter, Jr. (pictured) of Oakland HS hit a buzzer beating shot to beat the NorCal Warriors.
Warriors Start Strong in Oakland Rebels Tourney
/Both the Bay Area Warriors Gold and Bay Area Warriors Blue kicked off the season going 2-1 in the Oakland Rebels Tournament.
The Gold team beat Oakland Rebels Red and Elite and fell too Lakeshow- White. Gold got great contributions from Keith Hunter (Oakland), Terrez Blaylock (Lincoln). Jemiel King (Lincoln), Eric Gallindo (Riordan), Sam Esser (Balboa), Henry Feinberg (Branson), Belie Coleman (Skyline), Naod Sebhatlieb (University), Josh Tesfamarian (Oakland) and Micah Bessolo (Valley Christian).
The Blue Team beat the Oakland Rebels and NP Force but fell in a heated re-match with the Oakland Rebels. Blue got great contributions from Sean Gilmore (University), Jake Tulchinsky (University), Sepher Agnesse (Marin Catholic), Daniel Bessolo (Valley Christian) and the entire Gateway crew including Steven, Sterling, Yasim and Nick.
Both Warriors teams will be back in action next week-end at the Oakland Soldiers Extravaganza

The Bay Area Warriors will be hosting the 7th Annual City Championship on 5/16-18 at CCSF for Elite 17U and 16U teams. The last 3 years the tournament has sold out and attracted top teams like the Oakland Rebels, Soldiers and Lakeshow. Last years Champion was the Oakland Rebels. 9th Annual City Sunday League Won by Dark Blue
/The Bay Area Warriors Sunday League now has a long history of helping Junior High Schoolers get ready for their school season. While the host gym for the League has moved from Hamilton Rec to Ella Hill Hutch Community Center to UHS, competitive games and a lot of fun are constants. Many alumni of the League have gone on to Star at San Francisco High Schools and several have gone on the play in College. League Alums currently playing in College include Noah Springwater at Columbia, Steven Domingo at Georgetown, Taylor Johns at UC Riverside, Jonny Mrlik at Vassar, Ikenna Nwadibia at Kenyon, David Medoff at Haverford and Harold Getz at Lewis & Clark, Joe Slocum at Alaska Fairbanks. This years League had 6 teams (Red, White, Dark Blue, Gold, Light Blue and Black). The Championship game was played between Light Blue and Dark Blue with DB taking home the hardware (Note pictured in Gold). See photos of all the teams below:
Warriors Close-out Successful Season in FAB48 in Vegas

The Bay Warriors travelled to Las Vegas and knocked off some good teams including Compton Hoops and Deron Williams Elite - Black in the super competitive Platinum Division of the NCAA Sanctioned Fab48 Tournament. In July the Warriors also competed in the NorCal Hoop Review Showcase at CCSF and the Pango's Cream of the Crop Showcase in Los Angeles, both of which were NCAA sanctioned. The Warriors competed against and beat some very talented teams, were scouted by NCAA and NAIA Division 1, 2 and 3 Coaches and had a lot of fun. Congrats to the Warriors on another successful season!

/Warriors at the Memorial Day Classic
/The Bay Area Warriors had a solid showing in the Memorial Day Classic going 3-2. They captured 2nd place in pool play beating Oregon Pump N Run and Play Hard Play Smart, but fell in a close game to Lakeshow Elite in game in which they led for most of the 2nd half. In Bracket play the Warriors beat Stanco Stampede but then lost to a hot shooting Lakeshow Seniors squad in a game that tipped off at 10pm.
6th Annual City Championship Tournament Ready to Tip-off 5/17
/48 of the best teams in NorCal will be playing in the 6th Annual City Championship Tournament at CCSF (756 Ocean Avenue, San Francisco) this Friday Night. The Field which includes top programs including: Lakeshow, Oakland Rebels and Oakland Soldiers will be divided into a 17U Division with 28 teams and a 16U Divsion with 20 teams. Friday Night there will be 12 games at CCSF starting at 6:00pm. On Satruday there will be 36 games at CCSF starting at 8:45 am and 6 games at the Excelsior Boys & Girls Club (163 London Street) starting at 3:00 pm. Past Champions have included Lakeshow (3X), Bay Area Wildcats and Team 94.
6th Annual City All Star Game Showcases the Best Seniors

The Bay Area Warriors hosted the 6th Annual City All Star Game last night at CCSF and brought the San Francisco basketball community together. The highlite of the evening was the brief memorial for the late Michael Gragnani who was represented by his parents Diane and Al Gragnani who were greeted by all of the players and coaches.
In the Girls Game Team City led throughout with a balanced scoring effort led by Chanel Malone of Balboa (13 pts), Tatiana Ranis of SI (12pts) pts and Sophia Nguyen of Lincoln with 12 pts on 4 3 pointers. Ashley Gainer of Sacred Heart Cathedral led Team San Fran with 14 pts. Chanel Malone was named the Girls MVP. Malayssia Basallo of Balboa was the Girls' 3-point contest Champion.
In the Dunk Contest the semi-Finalists were Kenny Anigbogu of Gateway, Ray Porter of Gateway, Albert Collins of Marshall and Matt Bergland of Lick with the Finals coming down to Albert Collins and Ray Porter. When Albert missed on his attempt to jump over a player and dunk, the 2013 Dunk Championship went to Ray Porter. In the Boys 3-Point Contest Daniel Maclean-Vernic of St. Ignatius brought home the hardware edging out Herman Pratt of Sacred Heart Cathedral.
In the Boys Game, Team San Fran jumped out to a 16 point lead with Matt Bergland scoring 12 first half points but Team City roared back to within 1 point on a long 3-pointer by Antoine Porter of Mission with less than a minute to go. But they did not score again missing or being blocked on several attempts in their final possessionss. Team San Fran got a great effort out of Albert Collins of Marshall who had a double double, several highlight drives from Harold Getz of University and 3 key blocked shots by Herman Pratt to preserve the win in the closing minutes. Team City was led by Nate Cohen of Urban with 17 points and Antoine Porter of Mission with 17 points. The Game MVP award went to Matt Bergland of Lick.
All the players had a great time and closed out their high school careers with a positive experience. Special Thanks to CCSF for hosting the event!

The Bay Area Warriors will be hosting the 6th Annual City All Star Game tonight at CCSF. The game will be held in memory of Michael Gragnani the former Lincoln, Berkeley and Redwood HS coach who suddenly passed away in 2011. Coach Mike was a great coach and person and we welcome the opportunity to keep his legacy alive.
